Many string players, at some point in their musical development, begin playing for pay…taking “gigs”.  The nerves can be worse playing your first wedding than they are when you give a solo recital!  The one thing you want to be sure of is that you are prepared for emergencies.  Everyone takes this to a different level, so I thought it would be fun to talk about what we put in our “gig bag”.  Mine can be a little different for the type of gig, but this list is my personal goal for my cello bag:

Extra A string

Extra SET of strings

Rosin

Cleaning cloth

Backup bow (in cello case!)

Mute

Tuner

Folding music stand

Clothes pins (for windy day, if outdoors)

Xeros endpin strap

Black Hole rockstop

Water bottle

Granola bar

Chewing gum

Vodka (just checking if you’ve read this far)

My own chair, if all they have are rented folding chairs

What’s on your list?
