As I looked at the forecast for later this week, I realized…winter is coming.  We already have the humidifier running in our showroom and we’re already flipping coins for who has to fill up the tanks!  As the temperatures drop and our furnaces run, the interior air becomes dry enough to pose a danger to our instruments…especially cello and bass.  The wood in our instruments lose moisture and contract slightly, potentially placing tremendous strain on the plates and seams.  For cellos and basses, it is very common to see open seams and the occasional (and dreaded!) crack.  Feel free to contact us for advice on how to best care for your instrument given your usage and storage!
